"Old Dobbin"Vernon Kilns
8.5" Bits of Old New England Plate
Vintage California Pottery
Multicolor Transferware Plate
Offered:
A lovely
8.5-inch
picture plate from Vernon Kilns,
from the Bits of Old New England series (c. 1940s). This plate features "Old Dobbin," with a horse drawn carriage in front of a rural cottage, surrounded by marvelously drawn huge trees.
It has a rich
multi-color
transferware design on
the Ultra shape (with dipped rim), with very pretty colors.
This vintage plate is in good condition. The design is rich and colorful. There are no cracks, crazing, or hairlines. But there are a lot of light utensil marks visible when held at an angle in the light (none that mar the design). There is also a speck of red glaze stuck to the bottom edge of the rim (visible in the photos, and original to manufacture). On the back you can see firing marks and some light brown spots on the foot ring.
The plate is marked on the underside with a Gothic logo for
"Bits of Old New England | Old Dobbin| by | Vernon Kilns | U.S.A."
