A lovely
8.5-inch
picture plate from Vernon Kilns,
from the Bits of Old New England series (c. 1940s). This plate features "Haying," with an oxen-drawn cart being loaded with newly moan hay, with a barn in the distance.
It has a rich
multi-color
transferware design on
the Ultra shape (with dipped rim), with very pretty colors.
This vintage plate is in good condition. The design is rich and colorful. There are no cracks, crazing, or hairlines. There are very light utensil marks visible when held at an angle in the light (none that mar the design). On the back you can see firing marks and a couple of specks in the glaze (I believe original to manufacture).
The plate is marked on the underside with a Gothic logo for
"Bits of Old New England | Haying | by | Vernon Kilns | U.S.A."
