The signature on the box, I believe, translates “Kutani Choza” and the hand written inscription on the box, I believe, translates to “A cup and saucer for a happy occasion”. They are new and in their original wooden presentation box. Each box is hand lettered.Choza porcelain has very limited availability to the public and is highly sought after. A pair of cup and saucer sets is a unique find and a wonderful gift for anniversaries, birthdays, etc.
Choza is a highly honored and in great demand porcelain painter. He has done commissions for their majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan, dishes for Imperial banquets, plates to be used by Crown Prince and Princess Masako’s wedding, bowls to commemorate the birth of princes Kako, and plates bowls and dishes for many other auspicious and important Japanese occasions.
